Defines the desired state that the project is to deliver including boundaries of the proposed new, removed, and modified enterprise components. and the expected value it brings to the business,. The description may also include the desired future capabilities, policies, resources, dependencies, infrastructure, external influences, and relationships between each element.

The Future State Description artifact receives in put from Business Requirements and provides input for the Change Strategy. It includes 2 artifact types; Business Objectives and Potential Value.

The Future State Description comprises 9 elements and 1 task:

  • Project Name - Identifies the future state description.

  • Scope of Solution Space - A list of change options that will be used to meet the business requirements.

  • Constraints– A list of restrictions on changes to the current state.

  • Organizational Structure and Culture – A description of the organizational structure and its relationships within the enterprise.

  • Capabilities and Processes – A list of new or changing processes and capabilities to achieve the future state.

  • Technology and Infrastructure – A description of changes to the IT architecture required required to meet the future state.

  • Policies – A description of changes to business polices required to meet the future state..

  • Business Architecture – A description of changes to the business architecture required required to meet the future state.

  • Internal Assets – A list of resources that need to be adjusted to meet the future state..

  • Identify Assumptions – A list of assumptions in order to meet the future state.
